Ceramics
I
approach my work as if I'm embarking on a new and exciting journey.
I study an area to familiarize myself with that en-vironment. When
I'm ready, the clay becomes a vehicle. Using
my hands, I leave my
studio and enter another time and space.

To begin,
I push large blocks of clay through an extruder to produce clay
pipes and coils of different shapes and sizes. Sometimes I use
a liquid clay to cast a basic form or roll out a large slab of
clay. Then I'm off: pushing, pulling, changing the mass into a
new and unique shape.

Sometimes
I visit an ancient land, utilizing motifs from the past to inspire
me. Or I immerse myself in a mythological or ritualistic space.
I like to play with ceremonial concepts: ancient designs from Egyptian
tombs or cartoon motifs from Fantasyland. It's all there, at my
fingertips.
