Purpose: The Purpose of this meeting
was to review the initial layout for the Family Recreation Center. The Advisory
Group is responsible to conduct periodic reviews of the work of the Building
Committee. This is the first review that they have conducted.

of the progress made by the Building Committee to date. The presentation can

There was considerable discussion
after the presentation. The key points made included:
The new third level (see layout)
may not be feasible because of the elevator. The shaft is about 15 feet away
from the edge of the proposed third level. One idea is to extend the third
level over to the existing elevator shaft. This would extend the third level
through the current attic above the hallway, classroom, and board room. This
would increase the space in the third level and solve the elevator problem.
The top of the current sanctuary
roof should stay above the top of the new third level for aesthetic reasons.
Another idea for the third level
is to make it a basement below the new kitchen. The people in attendance thought
that the ground in the lower parking lot area is mostly fill. If this area
was dug out for a basement then the fill could be moved to the current volleyball
court and build up that area.
The current planning phase should
be completed even though we will go through a change of Senior Pastors. The
cost for the architect to do a detailed layout is minimal and we should not
lose the momentum we've built up on the building program.
Make sure we design the new facility
in a way that it can be locked off from the current facility. This will avoid
people "roaming around" in the current facility when the new facility
is in use.
After the facility is built we
ought to consider having a full time Facility Manager to take care of the
many issues that will come up with the new and existing building.
Rest rooms on the third level
need to be considered.
If the third level is deemed impractical
then we might consider building the youth area where the current drive through
exists in the back of the church.
We ought to consider building
with a steel structure. It might be less expensive.
