We will be staying at the Mountaineers Stevens Lodge at the top of Stevens Pass. Stevens Lodge is mostly used during winter for weekend skiing. Richard and Sheridan Botts are members of the Mountaineers and will oversee the lodge during the week and Richard will coordinate the cooking. Each person does one chore each day at the lodge, which could include helping the cook to prepare a meal, kitchen clean up, vacuuming, and cleaning a bathroom. The first evening, we will go over the chores and post the sign-up list.
There is a no smoking, alcohol, or drugs policy inside the lodge, which we will respect. Beer and wine can be consumed outside and we visit a tavern in Skykomish on Friday after work.
There is no telephone inside the lodge. A pay phone is available nearby at the ski area, which you could use. Cellular phone service may be reached at the pass itself, but is iffy inside the lodge.
Lodge layout
Stevens Lodge has four floors
Bottom floor: has restrooms, showers, food storage, a small workshop, and a drying room (this is a ski lodge and dealing with wet clothes is a necessity during ski season).
Second floor: has a large kitchen, lounge area, and tables and benches for eating (and puzzles and cards). The open area has a nice large fireplace, which we may or may not use.
Third floor: has two sleeping rooms, one for women and one for men.
Fourth floor: also has two sleeping rooms, one for men and women (and couples), and one for lodge coordinators and people who snore.
Each sleeping room has raised sleeping platforms with mattresses and pillows. It will be chilly at night, so bring a sleeping bag good to the 40’s. The lodge does not have clothes washing facilities, so you may wish to do some hand clothes washing and use the drying room. We can arrange for a trip to use a laundromat on Wednesday. Play it safe by bringing plenty of work clothes.
