A few notes about working with the SWOTL modules (mods) To install a module (mod), please read the instructions CAREFULLY! They are usually in a file called "README..." or something similar. It is recommended that you make a COPY of your COMPLETE SWOTL directory (and all subdirectories) and install the mod there. This makes switching between "regular SWOTL" and the modified version much easier! Otherwise, read about making BACK-UPS of the files that will be replaced (overwritten) in the mod's instructions. You can use the SWPREP file to do this for you. If you try the module and find that it "crashes" on you (won't run) there are a few possible problems. Look at the rest of this document to see if there is a problem with versions, or missing add-ons. If SWOTL keeps asking you to "Insert Disk..." it can't find a file and thinks it must be on a floppy disk. This means there is a file missing somewhere. Also, when SWOTL sends you back to a DOS prompt after "crashing" it usually leaves a message at the DOS prompt. The message may look strange, but it is telling you what file could not be found. If you do have the file be sure that it is in the right directory! Please understand that there is only so much that the we can change in SWOTL so that it is not going to LOOK all that different. The graphics cannot be changed. We can alter the look only by changing the general color scheme and by mixing and matching existing graphics. Therefore, we have not yet found out how to alter the shapes of the aircraft, the cockpit graphics, the map or the terrain. BUT, we can let you fly various aircraft by altering performance and weapons loads, and change a few other things as well. Some of the modules will use external aircraft graphics from LucasArts "Their Finest Hour:The Battle of Britain." If you don't have it, you'll need the BOB_PAC.ZIP file for these graphics. Note that these aircraft sometimes APPEAR to "fly funny" since there are less external views available to SWOTL to display. The mods were all written before the release of the AIR COMBAT CLASSICS set (SWOTL v 2.2). Since many of these modules contain a modified versions of the *.OVL files from the main SWOTL directory, they will only work with the version 2.1 of SWOTL which was used to create them. However, you can work around this with minimal disruption to the mod by simply NOT replacing any of the *.OVL files with the modified ones from the add-on. (You may edit the installation *.BAT file(s) to avoid copying over the *.OVL files.) The game will run properly, and the mod will still work, but you will miss some of the "flavor" of the module as changes to the text material will be lost. Another option is to use the modified *.OVL files from version 2.2 (ACC). These are packaged into sets for each mod and titled them accordingly, starting with the letters "ACC". Look for ACC-AFRK, ACC-RUSS, ACC-NITE, ACC-1940, ACC-1946, ACC-JET, ACC-USA and ACC-PACF. NOTE: This does NOT apply to the LUCKY STRIKES module, since it uses special programming to alter your EXISTING *.OVL files as it needs to.
