The Simple Division refers to the number of vertical lines dividing the mari (Ex. a temari divided with 4 vertical lines is described as an "S4 division."  This is considered the easiest division and recommended for beginners.  For Simple 12 division instructions, click here.  Probably the most popular pattern done with a simple division is the kiku or chrysanthemum temari. The C8 (or Complex 8) Division is a simple 8 division with extra divisions, forming six centers (or poles) on the temari with 8 spokes radiating from each center.  Making a C8 temari should be done only after one understands and has accomplished the making of a simple division temari.

 

 

The C10 (or Complex 10) Division is a simple 10 division with extra divisions, forming 12 pentagons with 10 spokes radiating from the center of each pentagon.  The division should be attempted only after one understands and has accomplished the making of simple and C8 divisions.  Detailed Instructions are available.
