Direction Sign

The sign on Mountain Rd. directing you to Erving Castle/Hermit's Cave.

Follow the M-M trail southwest for 1.6 miles until you reach the junction of the blue blazed trail. Follow the blue blazed trail, steeply, downhill for 0.5 miles to reach the Erving Castle/Hermit's Cave. (Please Note: The actual sign indicated a 1 M hike to the blue blazed trail. The image above has been digitally altered to reflect the actual distance.)

If you are hiking in from Farley, you will encounter the western terminus of the blue blazed trail shortly after crossing Packard Brook. After visiting the site continue uphill this trail until it rejoins the M-M trail 1.6 miles from Mountain Rd.

This side trip bypasses the ledges on the M-M trail overlooking the Millers River. These worthwhile vistas are just west of the eastern junction of the M-M trail and the blue blazed trail.
