Two
other cassette tape sizes were introduced in the late 1970s; the minicassette
(2 1/4" x 1 1/2") and the microcassette™ (2" x 1 1/2").
The microcassette
quickly became more popular of the smaller cassettes, being compatible with the new hand-held dictation
units utilized by many physicians, although
all three sizes of cassette tapes are still in use today.
