VSS Commodores' Corner

COMMODORE’S REPORT

We had a good turnout for our September meeting.  This is usually not the norm due to the fact that many of our members have not returned from their summer destinations.  Our guest speaker was Paul Marrone of SeaTow.  He explained just how much service you can expect from your towing insurance and when you should expect to start paying in a salvage situation.

At the September BOD meeting it was determined that we would continue with our dues credit for Cruise Masters.  We also decided to continue with a credit for expenses for anyone supplying a committee boat for the Saturday Buoy Race.

Walt Hicksen, one of our members passed away recently.  His family has requested that the squadron assist in scattering his ashes in the gulf.  We will need four boats to carry four family members each on this mission.  If you are interested in helping, contact Bill Hettler who is organizing this activity.  The proposed date is Saturday, October 11, 2008.  Please contact Bill Hettler at 485-7619.

The speaker for the October meeting will be Bob Senn who will tell us how to cruise the Bahamas.

A big thanks to Bob Jensen who has volunteered to be our new Race Committee Chairman.
Do not forget to send in your check for the Steak & Sail.  This year it will be held on October 26th at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.   (Click here to go to Cruising News for instructions)
