Cruising News
It’s
hard to believe that this is the last Tell Tale of the 2008-2009
season. We’re asking ourselves where the time went & possibly
you’re echoing the question. We’re not fond of bidding time goodbye, if
you get our drift.
If you receive this before the Saewert’s cruise to Boca Grande,
remember to bring something to cook on the grille < for your dinner
> & something to share before, during, or after dinner. We’ll be
using their grille in the ‘gathering area’. Friday night, you’re on
your own. There are a bunch of good restaurants in the area & the
Marina rents golf carts for those who are not into walking. Coming by
boat or car, also remember to bring your utensils (otherwise it will be
‘Fingersville’) & your beverages of choice.
The final cruise of the season is the annual Change of Watch, or as we
dairy farmers like to think of it, THE COW. The Plan is to arrive on
Friday, May 22nd or Saturday, May 23rd. Sixteen boats have signed up
& surely other members will come by car. Gonna be fun! Sat.
evening, most of us will dine together at the restaurant and Sunday
morning, will be the annual, insane Blind Dinghy Race. As Cruise Master
Bill Dowling says, ‘it’s a hoot!’
The actual COW will take place on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. The 1st
act of business will be to eat the most succulent beef tenderloin you
have ever allowed to grace your tongue. Please create something for the
‘before, during, or after’ bit to share. AND, don’t ignore those
necessary beverages.
After dinner, we’ll honor outgoing Commodore, Bob Grunow, & welcome
the new officers.
We’ll also announce the Cruising Mile accumulations of our mateys. The
Tally sheets can be found in this issue of the Tell Tale and/or on the
VSS website. The exciting questions to be answered are: Will additional
stars be in some Captain’s future? Will some Captain move up to a
higher category colored burgee? Will some poor joker win the dreaded,
but nonetheless cherished, Black Cloud Award? Ah, the anticipation!!!
Have a good summer. Safe sailing & may the wind be always be at
your back.
