CRUISING CAPTAIN’S CORNER

* On March 30, 4 intrepid VSS captains & crew greeted a late dawn (8:45 a.m.) and headed south, destiny Key West. The 4 were Captains Tom Barrett, Don Duncan, Bob Lehrman & Bob Thacker. Captain Steve Saewert joined us in Key West having left earlier, & Don Marik left a week later. (we never actually joined up with Don & his crew of 2 – Nancy & Jacob – but we were in phone contact!) Good times were had by all????? Hmmmmm. Jim Eve is to be thanked for providing valuable information for the journey. It was fun? (As Bill Clinton once said: it depends on your definition of the word “fun”.) Cap’t John Lynch made the same journey about 3 weeks earlier than our INTREPID group & also survived.

* I (Carol) made some notes during the trip, entitled: What I learned:
        I learned that …..
3’ seas are bigger than you think
4’ seas are bigger than that
Being proactive is one heck of a lot better than being REactive
A sweet little black dog named Alice can ‘hold it’ for 24 hours
            Clairborne Young isn’t always right
The VSS has some very special members
Seas of 5’ coupled with winds of 25 mph means no nap today
            You really can’t see ‘no-see-ums’
Sometimes, you really CAN’T help as much as you’d like to
That when someone says “It’s shallow there”, it’s generally too late
That when you smash a mosquito with an open book, blood gets on both pages
Some adages are right on ….
                * No time like the present
                * Never ignore an opportunity to use the ‘john’ or take a shower
                * Beating a dead horse is pointless, pointless, pointless, pointless, pointless………
            What ‘hard aground’ really means
NOAA weather forecasts are sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce
Clean laundry smells one heck of a lot better than dirty laundry
Living on board appears frightfully boring unless you like to drink a lot and, FINALLY …..
            BOATERS ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE!

* THE CHANGE OF WATCH will be here before you know it. As usual, it will be at the Burnt Store Marina,
May 23 – 25. It is such great fun & a perfect end to a grand season of cruising. Don’t forget to send in your
check & reservations.---- Here is the COW form for reservations in MS Word format

* Don’t forget that the deadline for your Cruising Miles Tally Sheets are due (to us) NO LATER than May 15th! So far, we have received a grand total of TWO. Hmmmmmmmmm.  --- Here is the form in MSWord format
