Today’s Program

PE Bill, introduced our guest speaker, Brad Bernardini, MD., and office manager, Mark Worden, of South Jersey Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Brad was a doctor for the US Olympic Ski Team. Brad gave the club a slide presentation on the ACL Knee Injury and repair.

Women are more prone to have this type of injury than men. Mainly a sports injury, Philadelphia Eagles player Donavan McNabb is currently recovering from an ACL tear. The most common symptom is a popping sound with the immediate onset of pain and swelling. It is diagnosed by examination with the aid of MRI. Years ago, this knee repair involved a procedure resulting in large incisions. Brad has been trained with the newest technology and surgical procedures, using only 2 small incisions for the repair. Recovery can take up to a year. There is a "Jump Start" program developed using specialized exercises to help prevent this injury.
