Flag Salute & Prayer

Marty led our singing, Flag Salute and the 4-Way Test. We welcomed back Ron McMahon returning from his Rotary service trip to Nigeria. Ron accompanied us on the piano. Cornell gave the blessing.

P. Bill introduced Dave Schad who made the daily announcements. He just returned from Honduras and will give us a program in February. Welcome back, Dave!

Guests

Welcome to Joe Stelweck and Shirley Burke - our newest members.
Scott Brown visited us from Ocean City/Upper Township and John Wisda visited from Elmer.

Announcements

Glenn Kahley gave us a detailed account of the signage we have around town for our club. Glenn announced that the board authorized three new signs and refurbishment of five existing signs. One of our newer members, Joe O’Roarke, will be taking over from Glenn to maintain the signs. Joe has already recruited one of our RYLA students from Sacred Heart to help.

P. Bill introduced Alan Dickinson who announced the $2,000 District Grant recently awarded to our club for the Pedals for Progress program. Henry Hansen accepted the grant and said the program grew from the original idea of Art Schalick. Henry already has some bicycles for the next collection, and asked members to get more for him.

Shirley Burke announced the Tiny Tim Caroling to be held Tuesday night, Dec. 11th. We will meet at 6:00 PM at Cottonwood Drive and walk in the Franklin Heights areas to the Fosters. Shirley will be co-hosting the event with the Fosters.

Henry presented a Garage Mahal sign to fundraising chair, Ted Lane.
Ted said we have 100+ people signed up for the wine tasting December 7th. He again said to be successful we need to invite friends, neighbors, relatives and co-workers to insure our success. Ted will have tickets at next week’s meeting.

Ron McMahon presented two Rotary banners from his recent trip to Nigeria. Ron visited the central area of Nigeria, and said their largest city has 6 rotary clubs. He will present a program with pictures in January. Fifteen Rotarians from South Jersey made the trip. There were in total, 90 Rotarians who went on the trip to help immunize children against Polio. The Nigerian people are very supportive of our program. Ron said he ate a lot of fried chicken and rice. Guess what we had for lunch today?

Jay Parks announced that he has copies of the presentation he gave at the meeting last week. He only asks for a $10 donation to Rotary Charities. That is Service Above Self!

Ken Dondero announced that we will be stuffing stockings following the meeting next week for the party for Special Children the following day. The party will be held in the morning at Mennies School for K through 3rd grade. A sign-up sheet was passed at the tables.

Lou Tramontana announced that the next District Conference will be held in the Grand Hotel in Cape May April 18-20. A $50 deposit is due with registration. Registration forms will be available on line at “rotary7640.org”. Registration forms will also be available at next week’s meeting. Sherry is setting a group of rooms aside for us at the Camelot where we will be able to have our own hospitality room.

Linda announced the District 76ers event next Monday. The L.L. Bean catalog is available to order Rotary wear. She said T-shirts are $25.

Carol Captis announced the Holiday party will be held at the Eastlyn Golf Course on 12/27. Hospitality hour starts at 6:00PM and dinner at 7:00. attendees are again asked to bring a wrapped re-gift. Carol said a lot of planning is going into the party again this year and it should be a lot of fun.

Finemaster

Bill fined Glenn $2 for the length of his announcement. He fined Loren and Henry for being in the newspaper, and he fined Betsy for inappropriate applause.

Program

Betsy provided a different way to get to know your fellow Rotarians today, by playing Rotary Bingo. You just had to put a member’s name in each block to answer the questions. For example, “What member has satellite radio in their car?” The exercise got everyone out of their seat and talking. It was a very good thing to do after a big lunch.
And the winner? Rob Tola.
