Distel has been playing the drums for 50 years, and has a very colorful
musical history. His first formal drum teacher was Art Flower an excellent drum teacher and active musician in San Francisco. He went on to study drums with Joe Morello and lived and played as a professional musician in San Francisco For over 25 years. Paul has a very solid academic background from the , San Francisco Conservatory of Music, San Mateo Jr College, and a Variety of private teachers including a 15 year full-time career as a Guitarist. At one time he decided to switch instruments and become a full-time Guitar Player and pursued that career for some 20 years... He played both in jazz settings and rock and roll bands and had many other musical interests including Latin music and Classical. He credits his mentors and colleagues as his greatest influences, and without them he would not have developed into The musician he is today. His career took him through almost every State in the Union including Europe, where he recorded in England at the famous Beetles Abby Road, Apple recording studio. His career includes recordings and performances with, Vince Guaraldi, Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete, Sly and the Family Stone, Pete and Coke Escovedo, Claire Fisher, Bobby McFerrin, Bill Watrous, Bobby Shew, and has literally played with hundreds of musician's. He also toured with the Barnum & Bailey's Three ring circus and can be heard on several famous CDs and singles from the fifties and sixties including the Charlie Brown Christmas album. Paul was also invited to be in the famous photo of the" San Francisco Giants of jazz". He is still a very sought after performer and recording artist, and lives and works in Sonoma County and the San Francisco Bay Area. Paul is a recipient of a liver transplant, which forced him to quit playing music for several years so that he could make a full Recovery from the Operation. He is now fully recovered and feels very fortunate to be able to continue his career as a musician.
