Update from MCC Baltimore's South Africa Team in Durban
Dear Friends in Christ,
We [Pastor David Smith, Mike Barnes and Debora Ruffin] are now here in Durban and though we are enjoying exceptional favor we also seem to be experiencing Satan working overtime.
We had a beautiful flight into Durban, though quite early Sunday. The South Africa Airways flights here remind us of the domestic flights in the USA in the early 1980's--plenty of leg room, empty seats, breakfast served on a one hour flight!
We were met by pastor Debs and Brandon at the airport and whisked away to a prayer breakfast in a lovely home nearby with the "circle of eight," Deo Gloria's leadership prayer team including Brigs, a young couple Justin and Ti, and others including our hosts Gerdt and his partner. We had a powerful time of prayer during which we also interceded for MCCb's Sunday service.
It turns out that Deo Gloria has been very tuned in to the Florida Outpouring that Mike and I attended. They are experiencing an outpouring of their own including great freedom in worship. After our prayer time we came to our beautiful homes for the week, Mike and I to Pastor Deb's and Marique's home, and Debora to Linda Comrick's. Though there are animals at both places, my alergies are not acting up and Debora has actually stood here next to Pastor's three large boxers in relative comfort. God is good.
The evening service was powerful with times for all three of us to pray with members of the congregation. The message God had begun in me at the Florida outpouring seemed to be targeted for this people. Today we had a great day of visiting with the Pastor and with Linda and walking along the Indian Ocean as we prayed that the love of Jesus would flow like this great ocean from Durban to India.
Later in our week here we had opportunity to attend the Wednesday night prayer session at the church building where Deo Gloria worships and where the upcoming SOZO (Saved, Healed, Delivered), conference will be held with Rev. Sandra Turnbull and Janet Robertson from Glory Tabernacle will be keynote speakers. I am going to ask that we transition our prayer efforts toward South Africa to support this important conference that has the potential to bring a wave of healing and rebirth to all of the "eunuchs" (as they call them) in South Africa. Already people are attending the conference from all the major cities in the nation. Our prayer especially is that there be blacks and whites attending in spite of challenges of expenses and travel. Their prayer time together is very interesting in that they are always on their feet and performing many "body prayer" prophetic acts together. They also often have prophetic music during their prayer.
Also this week we got to visit a orphanage, God's Golden Acre, and a wildlife refuge where we saw zebras, ostriches, a rhino and her baby and hippo as well as all manner of bird life and impala. On our last day here, Thursday, we visited the Gay and Lesbian Center in downtown Durban and attended the Thursday night home group in the pastor's home (where we are staying). The Durban area is incredibly beautiful, much like Long Beach. God is redigging old wells of revival here, and the movement it seems will be lead by the saints of Deo Gloria.
