Healing with the Power of Zero Point – Article 1 in a series on healing therapy using the “Quantum Metaphor”

© 2002 by Craig R. Lang  CHt

Some people seem to struggle through life with a limited view of their world.  They feel stuck in an existence where there seems to be few options and little joy.  But for others, life seems to be full of smiles and promise - always a wonderful new day beginning with the morning sun.  We all live in the same world, so how can different people live in such different realities?  Could it be that our view of the world is really what creates the reality we live in?  Perhaps by re-examining our own reality, we can become that person of joy.

One wonderful means of reframing the reality of our life path can be through therapy of various types.  Hypnotherapy, for example, can be a powerful tool.  It can guide us to new insight by taking us into a deep trance state, revisiting, re-experiencing and re-understanding the events which gave rise to an issue.  We then can view it in the light of our new understanding, envisioning a future where the issue has been healed.

Like all powerful tools, there are occasions where hypnotherapy works better than other healing techniques.  But there are also times when one is confronted by not just one issue, but a panorama of issues.  While many of these may trace to common factors, sometimes perhaps they may also be the result of a set of life skills that one is now ready to learn.  Among these is the important realization that we are much more than our issues.  Simply put, we can transcend our issues and simply realize that “I Am”.  We can return to the healing space beyond any specific thought, feeling or problem – to a place sometimes referred to as the zero-point.

Often the best way to realize the “I-Am”-ness – to transcend the daily issues of life - is through a spiritual practice such as prayer and meditation.  These can help bring us closer to God – however we picture God to be.  Through spiritual practices such as meditation we learn to see ourselves as spiritual beings having a human experience.

Unlike hypnotherapy, meditation is not undertaken for a purpose.  It is not goal directed, and is not a substitute for therapy.  Practices such as prayer and meditation are self directed – no therapist is needed.  As with hypnotherapy, the healing that results can be deep and profound, and can also help to transform our entire lives – beyond specific issues, to a more holistic view of reality.  One learns to pull one’s consciousness back from a problem-filled world and to enter the beautiful state of mindfulness.  This begins to bring one back to the core their being – their singular “I am”, the healing space of the zero point.

So we find that both therapy and meditation each have their strengths and each has its limitations.  Wouldn’t it be nice if we could find a therapy which brought us a combination of the strengths of both?  Such a therapy could provide a unique, awesome path to healing.  In my work, I have learned of one combination which under certain circumstances, can do just that.  It is based upon book “Quantum Consciousness” by Steven Wolinski.  In this book, Dr. Wolinski builds a new theory called “Quantum Psychology”, which offers a way in which to both heal and transcend the issues of daily life.  He presents these in a way that is both spiritual and practical.  He provides very specific ways of putting his techniques into practice.

Dr. Wolinski’s model, which I refer to as “the Quantum Metaphor”, takes its core ideas from quantum theory.  One key to this is the idea that each of us creates our own reality.  Thoughts are things, and things are really nothing more than condensed nothingness – patterns in the zero-point field.  All things are made of energy, be they mental, spiritual or physical.  Thus, any issue, any mental pattern, can be seen as a created reality, which we maintain by our own observation.

The techniques based upon the Quantum Metaphor resemble practices in many traditions of meditation.  But they are also practical healing techniques which can be used in hypnotherapy.  They can address specific issues, and can lead to powerful states of mindfulness or self-observation.  They can help us see issues in their proper context, and therefore to transcend them.  Once transcended, they become less important – and therefore less of an issue.  In this series of articles, I will describe how we can use many of these techniques, either on our own, or as part hypnotherapy.  We will then practice some steps to put some of these in to practice.

To begin, we need to see that thoughts are things, and that things are simply energy patterns, condensed from the zero-point.  With this understanding, we find that we can observe them as we would any other aspect of our reality.  Our experiment for this week will do just that, help us to step back from our thoughts and see them simply as condensations of the zero-point field.  So, let’s begin:

*      Find a comfortable place, sit back and relax, allowing your eyes to comfortably close.

*      Allow yourself to recall a past event - a reality in time and space.  Perhaps it might be one that has dominated your awareness in the past.

*      Allow that reality to once again fill your awareness.  Feel yourself merging with the reality of that thought pattern, remaining there for a moment.

*      Now step out of that reality, viewing it from a distance.

*      Notice how that pattern now seems more limited in scope – a thought-thing that is no longer as important.

*      Allow the thought pattern to be contained within something – a container, a bubble, or some other mundane object.  Notice how it has become even less important.

*      Observe that it is only a form of energy.

*      Notice that it is just one of a number of such thought-things existing in your mind-space.

*      Observe, also, that each thought-thing is simply a condensation of the zero-point field around it. Observe how it fades into and out of existence.

*      Finally, observe that the thought-thing is separate from you and that you are actually creating it merely by observing it.

*      Allow the thought-thing to dissolve back into the zero-point energy from which it came, and enjoy the relaxation that comes from just being within the zero-point field, itself.

*      Allow yourself to just be…

What we have just seen is that, since we create any given reality for ourselves, we can also un-create it.  We can learn to see thoughts in context, and to realize that any reality pattern is merely condensed energy, which we can un-condense at our will.  I invite you to do this exercise as many times as you wish, as you realize more and more that in reality, we are really observing consciousness.  When we do, we will have taken the first steps to realizing the healing power of zero-point.

In the future articles, we will look at feelings and emotions, and see how they too, are simply energy within the zero-point field.  We will also look at more ways in which we can employ the Quantum Metaphor to handle issues and achieve perspective on the ordinary issues of life.

Until then, I invite you to explore the zero-point and your own mind field.  If you wish, feel free to let me know what you find.  I wish you well.  Enjoy your journey….
