Ken and I got a late start on Friday Jan. 25th 2002. There was no snow in lower Michigan so we were going to the U.P. or maybe even Canada. Our six hour trip lead us to Sault Ste. Marie Michigan where there was enough snow to sled on. Arriving in the Soo at 1:00 a.m. we were lucky to be able to lodge at our grand parents house.
Saturday was a big day for us. We started out in the Soo and gased up. There was a decent amount of snow on the shoulder of the road as we made our way to Trail #8. As we started down Trail #8 we noticed it had been groomed and was in very good condition. The trails were holding up really well considering the 40 to 45 degree temps and the moderate amount of snowmobilers on the trail.

The Brimley trail was in very good condition as well. We even meet up with the Soo groomer. The Soo groomer uses a two tracked CAT with a drag behind. It's a beautiful sight to see while on the trail. The trails were wide open with lots of room to play around. Now we were well on our way to Raco.

While driving through Raco there was minimal snow on the shoulder of the road but it did not scare us away. Our goal was to make it to the Tahquamenon Falls but we did hear from a few people that the trails were bad on the way up. We were going to investigate this one out for ourselves.
The closer we got to Paradise the trails were getting a little more beat up as the people stated but that did not stop us. There was still enough snow to ride on and when it got real bad we would ride on the shoulder of the road. We even found some great back roads just off the trail riding along the way.

After gasing up in the city of Paradise we are now on our way to the Tahquamenon Falls. As we made our way up we did find a few trouble spots. We found some bare spots, snirt and wet spots. There was a total of 4 big trouble spots that many people turned around at but that did not phase Ken and I. Instead of truning around or going around them we went through them!!! Some had three to four foot of water in them.

After overcoming the trouble spots we made it to the Tahquamenon Falls. This was both our second time visiting the falls. It sure is a sight to see in the winter. We recommend it to everyone. Even if you don't snowmobile you can drive your car to the Falls. We did not take any pictures of the good looking trails but believe us, most were in great condition. I would give the total trip a 7 on a scale of 1-10.
