Game #1

A little late in coming, but here's the recap of game #1.. Between sickness and time constraints, never mind the whole deal of getting a new page up and running...but you don't want to hear about all that!Game 1 was played at Mattos and saw a return of some players from last year as well as players from years gone by and some new players as well. Returning from last year were Ben Black, Bruce Grout, Frank Grout, Ralph Sherrick and Chief cook and bottle washer Sandy Sherrick. Returning from past years were Derek Gomes, Wayne Grout and Cody Raponi. Brand new Crusaders were Louie Logan and Justin Nascimento. Welcome new guys and welcome back returning Crusaders. Once a Crusader, always a Crusader. In the fan section we had Fan Club Co-President Richard “Scooter” Silva, Debbie Grout and Priscilla Grout Louie’s cousins were also in attendance as were four legged fans Miss Tess and Deuce. It was a nice night in Gloucester to play as well as to watch. The Crusaders were able to score enough to win the game 16-7 versus a more than able opponent in Manchester Baptist/Union Congregational. The game was back and forth and both teams enjoyed the good camaraderie that is the cornerstone of any Crusader game. A full 7 innings were played, as Mattos has lighting. There is also a playground nearby for any parents with younger children who may wish to attend a game at Mattos. There is also ample parking behind the school.

Highlights of the game included Wayne Grout’s first homerun of the season, Ben Black going 5 for 5, Bruce pitching the full game and some spiffy defense on the part of the Crusaders. We look forward to a great season of close games for our fans!
