Great regular season team!!! Go get em in the playoffs! Wish I could be there!
This week, the Crusaders experienced a few things we are not used to having to 'endure.' First of all, we had 14 players there. Second, we had over 14 fans cheering us on! Thirdly, we not only were hitting like it was going out of style, we played a phenomenal defensive game, allowing only 5 runs en route to a 31-5 victory over Boxford Cong./Free Church. Many times in the past, South Church as been on the receiving end of a lopsided score and many times we showed exemplary Christian values and sportsmanship, cheering on the other team and having fun. Boxford showed us last night what it was like to be on the other side. Hats off to them for coming out and having fun while putting the score aside.
Last night saw the return of some Crusaders we haven't seen in awhile. Danny Allison returned to third base and Sean Kocur returned to left field, showing he hasn't lost any of his tumbling skills. On a side note, shortstop and new player Justin Nascimento showed that Sean isn't the only one that can tumble, making quite an acrobatic attempt at a pop fly in the game. Barton Kimbro returned to the field, still working on his "game face." I think he needs more work in that department. Another new player from last year, and a Conwellian, Josh Hamilton chipped in with some hits and RBI's, as well as keeping talent scout Ben Black humble and honest.
As seems to be the going trend this year, the Crusaders welcomed a new player to the fold. Patrick Carr took the ball and pitched a gem of a game. He went the distance, allowing only 5 runs and keeping his composure on the field, thrilling all the fans, especailly his mother JoAnn. Other fans in attendance were Richard "Scooter" Silva, Jane Silva, Brittany Wilichoski, Debbie and Priscilla Grout (PLUS Debbie's mom), Gladys Broughton, Nelson and Jane Dionne (with Nick and Collette) and some friends of Cody Raponi as well as friends of the Conwellians. I apologize for not being able to get everyone's names or for anyone I left off the list.
Next week's game is another local venue game. We will be playing at Pine Hill in Lynn (directions can be found by linking on the "next event" tab on the home page). We will be playing Community Church. Come on out and have a great time cheering on the Crusaders!
