You win some. You loose some...
We didn't exactly win, but one thing's for sure -
PG&E definitely lost.
The CPUC has voted to adopt the ALJ Proposed
Decision – NOT the alternate. While the West-of-Skyline
Compromise was rejected, PG&E will be required to bury the line 11
feet deep. By some modeling, the line would emit under 2.5mG of EMF
above the source. Given the additional distance to our homes, we should
be safe. And we will be monitoring PG&E to make certain they fully
comply.
It should be noted that our efforts were not for
naught. In Commissioner Lynch’s own words we have set precedent
and have reopened the debate on EMF that has been closed for 14 years.
We have also protected six schools and hundreds of other residents who
would have otherwise been exposed to dangerous levels of EMF.
However, the West-of-Skyline compromise is not
necessarily dead. Our attorneys will be reviewing the decision and will
recommend whether or not we should seek an appeal. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, we should celebrate that we have
accomplished the impossible – if only by inches. Other
communities throughout California will now have an easier time
protecting themselves from the power companies' poison. Thank you to
everyone.
