DECEMBER 2004

12/12/2004: Not much has happened since last month, considering the holiday festivities and birthday parties, not to mention a college reunion type Christmas party, the weekends were rather booked. Today was a chance to tackle the fuel tank. The first thing I really wanted to do this day was to remove the various paddings glued to the top of the tank. I spent the better part of 2 hours removing the paddings using s gasket scraper, as well as a general purpose 4" scraper, and some 3M Adheasive Remover. I also employed a wire wheel and steel wool once all of the sticky stuff was finally removed. Since it's likely I'll be using Aeroquip hoses and an external pump, I've cut all of the hoses and tied them off for now; I kept the plug/harness for the fuel level sending unit. Below is a picture from when the tank was removed about a year ago, and today's picture:

12/18/2004: Today I tackled using Metal Ready and POR-15 to paint the topside of the fuel tank, along with some of the side. It was quite a bit of work but it appears to be well worth the effort. Tomorrow, I'll tackle the underside (already cleaned and Metal Ready etched.) Will need to find time during the Christmas weekend or New Years weekend to paint the silver top-coat on both sides.
