JANUARY 19, 2002: Surprise! Edy's 50th birthday

As Edy's 50th birthday approached, Chris asked her a few times, “What do you want to do to celebrate?” “Oh, surprise me,” Edy replied. SEPTEMBER 2001: A weekend in Pismo Beach

On Sept. 28-30 we rendezvoused at Pismo Beach on California's
central coast for a family reunion and to celebrate Ruth's 90th
birthday. The early autumn weather was balmy, the ocean water

FEBRUARY 2001: Tahquitz Canyon revisited

Tahquitz Canyon is a place of mystery, legend, danger and beauty. It's also been forbidden to public access since 1969. But recently the Agua Caliente Indian tribe re-opened this majestic canyon to guided tours. AUGUST 2000: The Great Northwest

In mid-August, we headed north to the Great Northwest --
Oregon and Washington. We went crab fishing, hiking

AUGUST 2000: Scheibe 2000

"Scheibe 2000" has come and gone, but the memories of our 48 hours together at Asilomar linger. Everyone seemed to agree that the Aug. 4-6 gathering of Herman and Anna Scheibe's descendants was one of the best reunions we've had since we started these biennial get-togethers in 1986. JULY 2000: The California Delta

Just east of the Bay Area the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers meet to create a winding maze of waterways and islands known as the California Delta. We packed our bikes and camping gear and headed there for a weekend to discover this boater's and fisherman's paradise. Click HERE or on the photo.

JUNE 2000: Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival

Folksinger and songwriter Kate Wolf died 1986 at age 44, but she continues to touch and inspire musicians and music lovers. And her spirit radiated throughout the three-day Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival, held at Caswell Vineyards outside of Sebastopol. MAY 2000: Bay to Breakers 2000

For the third straight year, we took part in Bay to Breakers, the annual San Francisco footrace that is a combination of the Boston Marathon, Mardi Gras and Halloween -- accompanied by Lars & Heather, Thor, Bjorn, Dave and our friends Mark & Theresa. APRIL 2000: Opening Day at Pacific Bell Park

On April 11, 2000, Chris, his brother Eric, and nephews Dave and Jon were among the lucky 40,930 baseball fans who saw the first regular-season game played at the San Francisco Giants' new ballpark, Pacific Bell Park. MARCH 2000: Biking Point Reyes, hiking Lafferty and more

During a one-week period in mid-March, Chris and Edy went on an all-day biking trip at Point Reyes National Seashore, got a rare apportunity to hike to the top of Sonoma Mountain through the restricted 270-acre Lafferty Ranch and took a cross-town walk along the railroad tracks, getting a different perspective of Petaluma. NOVEMBER 1999: The heart of Old Mexico

During Thanksgiving week of 1999, we were part of a seven-member group of friends who traveled deep into central Mexico. We visited the old colonial cities of Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende -- far removed from the tacky border towns of Tijuana and Juarez. MAY 1999: Bay to Breakers

Why in the world would anyone in their right mind want to get up at 5 a.m. on a Sunday morning just to run 7 1/2 grueling miles through the Streets of San Francisco.
