Below: Chris and Edy take a break while cycling down from the summit of Haleakala, a dormant volcano. We watched the sunrise, then coasted 38 miles, down through the upcountry, ending our journey at the beach at Paia.





Right: Red Sand Beach at Hana on the south coast of Maui. Hard to find, but worth the trip. In the shadow of a volcano crater and with a reef protecting the bay from the surf, it's a great spot for snorkeling.
