John Gourley owned a 300+ acre plantation around the present day Coles Ferry Pike in Gallatin, Tennessee. Upon his death, his oldest son Samuel inherited the plantation, and this is where he raised his family. When Samuel died, approximately 180 acres had to be sold to pay his debts. His wife Rebecca was left 120 acres as a dower, which included the old homestead.

John Gourley was administrator for the estate of Hugh Gourley. I do not know, and can't find, a link saying that Hugh was the father of John (though it is possible), but it is most probable that they were brothers.
