Greg Liljestrom is currently stationed in Northern Japan. You can hear of some of his experiences and see more pictures in Stories of Beachcombing. Here are some pictures of the floats that he's found.

You'll notice that most of his floats are very shiney and new looking. This is because he uses Liquid Crystal Car Polish on them!

Large floats from about 11" to 15" diameter

These floats demonstrate some of the colors that are found: blue, green, and light tan.

Giant 58" Circumfrance Float!

The float on the right is about 18.5" in diameter!!! That's about as big as they come! Consider the float next to it which is about 14" in diameter. The largest common size is about 15" in diameter or 45-46" around.

Funny Roller

Greg found some of the longer thinner rolling pin floats in one of the local shops in Japan.

The "Double FF" marking

Many of the floats Greg finds have the famous "double FF" marking on a seperate button. This button is typically 1 - 1.5" in diameter and is the mark of the "Hokuyo Glass Company". This was one of the premier glass float makers and they manufactured them from ~1946-1978.
