Our tank is lit with 3 x 250w Iwasaki 6500k Metal Halide bulbs driven by Advance Mercury Vapor ballasts.
There are also 4 x 72" VHO bulbs (160 watts each) - 3 x Super Actinics (Actinic 03's), and 1 x Actinic 50/50.
The VHO's will are driven by 2 x Icecap 430 ballasts.

Because of the DSB, the distance from the substrate to the water's surface is approximately 18".  The Iwasaki bulbs are 9" from the surface of the water, and the VHO's are approximately 5" from the surface.

There are also 2 IceCap variable speed fans in the hood.

This shows the inside of the hood when it was first wired.  The reflectors still have the protective coating on them, so look yellow/dull.  Also, at this point there are only two VHO's in the tank.  There will eventually be four.
This picture shows a close up shot of the 'bridge' Don built out of wood to mount the VHO bulbs.

When we first fired up the Metal Halides just to see what they looked like.  Wow, are they ever bright!  :-)

Let there be light!
