| The tank is a 180g All-Glass
tank drilled with 3 x 1" bulkheads (no overflows). Custom made cabinet
and hood . The dimensions of the tank are 72" x 24" x 24".
Lighting
consists
of 3 x 250w Iwasaki 6500k Metal Halide bulbs, as well as 4 x 6' VHO's -
3 Actinic 03's, and 1 Actinic 50/50; the VHO bulbs being powered by 2 x
IceCap 430 ballasts. There are 2 IceCap variable speed fans in
the
hood. The Metal Halide lamps are under Spiderlight
reflectors.
Total light wattage is 1,390 watts, or 7.72 watts per gallon.
Maximum
tank depth from water surface to substrate is approximately 18".
The water we use goes through a whole-house filtration unit, and a pH neutralizer. It then goes through a 100gpd RO/DI unit before entering the tank. The RO/DI is plumbed directly to a float switch in the sump, so water topoff is automatic. The output from the RO/DI is actually split three ways - one outlet goes to a float switch in the sump, the other to the Nilsen reactor, and the other to our makeup water container. The sump
is
in the basement, and is a 100g Rubbermaid stock tank, with various
partitions
and baffles to prevent the dreaded micro-bubbles. There is a
layer
of aragonite in the sump, as well as approximately 150 lbs of live
rock.
The protein skimmer is a DIY creation powered by a Mag 18 pump. The Calcium Reactor is another DIY creation - our most recent project. In the tank itself, there is approx 5" of Southdown
sand, and
another 1"-2" of live sand. There is approx. 100lbs of dead/base
rock, under the sand for stability, 125lbs of Marshall Island Live
rock,
and approx. 50lbs of Fiji live rock (from the 75g).
