Pittman Crew

A late-period crew, arriving at Harrington on the 18th of December 1944, along with several other 10-man crews, all new to Harrington.  Ten man crews because by that time the Group was scheduled to begin night bombing. They were flying bombing missions in February but by March had been transferred to the 858th BS and completed 26 combat missions by war's end.  On a ferry flight to Norway toward the end of May 1945 they were forced to ditch their B24 'Stubby Gal' on the island of Herdla.  A newspaper reporter commented their presence and the picture below shows five of the crew.

L-R: Lloyd Pittman, Glen Weddle, Jerome Zwerdling, Bob Lubovich and L.C. Downing.
