857th/858th BS
Shaw Crew
The crew arrived at Harrington on 18 December 1944 on orders issued from the 70th Replacement Crew Depot. Trained for and flying a number of night bombing missions, they were transferred to the 858th BS during the personnel turmoil of March 1945 when the 857th was sent to Bassingbourne. On the night of 19/20 April 1944, they were brought down by a combination of enemy aircraft and ground flak. All aboard were KIA. Robert G. Good had been transferred to the 856th BS on 09 Mar 45 and so was not KIA. In the 1990s a Norwegian fisherman brought up Mihocik's dog tags in his net, proving perhaps that the plane was still over water when brought down.
Aircraft Details - Incident plane was B24H 41-28910 'Old Goat', former 467th BG plane.
