B24H 41-29486
Following the turn-down in operational activity in September of 1944, a number
of crews were sent on Detached Service with the 406th Night Leaflet Squadron out
of Cheddington (Station 113). On return from an operation over the
Netherlands, the Abernathy crew found themselves groping for a landing place on
three engines. They put down at Woodbridge just off the runway; the plane
was a loss, but the crew walked away unharmed from their final mission.

The incident is described in full in the
Casualties Directory of the FTP site.
