Who am I?Hi there! My name is Greg and I live in Olympia, WA. I was born in Anchorage, AK, lived in Juneau, AK for a few years, then moved with my family to Washington state. I went to a few elementary schools in the Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater area then once we were finally settled down, finished elementary at McLane Elementary School, then went to Jefferson Middle School (a junior high school), and finished up and graduated from Capital High School in 1991. After graduating, I entered the U.S. Army as a 68D10 Helicopter Powertrain Repairer (PDF file will open, go to page 183 to read my duties). Did my Basic Combat Training at Ft. Knox, KY and my Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Eustis, VA. My first (and pretty much only duty station) was Ft. Hood, TX. I only got a one year break from there when I went to Camp Humphries in Korea. I spent seven years, one month and five days serving my country and was Honorably discharged on November 20, 1998. (I swore in on October 15, 1991) After getting out of the Army, I wanted to see more of the country I just served and took a job with Schneider National, Inc. as a truck driver. I drove an 18-wheeler for them for a year, but was stuck with just driving the 11 Western states. I changed over to KLLM Transport Services and drove all 48 states. Both companies did have me do a delivery up in Vancouver, B.C. which was nice in that I could say that I was an international driver. After two years of being a truck driver, I decided it was time to find a job close to home so I could help my mother out who has Rheumatoid Arthritis. I drove for a few months for a local florist shop with whom I am friends with the owner. During one of the deliveries I was making, I met a recruiter for Business Computer Training Institute and thought that is what I really needed to do: expand my education and get a job working with computers. BCTI offers two courses: Integrated Computer Applications and Advanced Information Systems. Both courses are 7.5 months long and set you up for a job in the real world. I took both courses and now have a job with an airport shuttle service. Without this training, I don't think I would be where I am right now. So, there you have it! Pretty much my life story and still going. |
