Cold Air Intake

A cold air intake is an after-market item that you can install on just about any car. There are many companies that make them. A CAI is designed to help a car "breathe" easier and for the Mustang, will relocated the filter outside of the engine compartment. The term "Cold Air Intake" is somewhat of a misnomer. It doesn't actually make the air colder, but the air it does draw in from the fender well is relatively cooler than the air inside the engine compartment.

Now, I did say there are several companies that made CAI's, but they sell theirs for hundreds of dollars. The one I installed on my car is from a company off of eBay. I boutght mine for under $60!

The gains are pretty much the same if you buy a name brand CAI or one off of eBay. You can find more information here about CAI's. Before I installed the CAI, I went and bought a K&N filter for my car. The filters used on a CAI are pretty much the same design in that you can take them off and clean them with a K&N Filter Charger Kit. You will be able to see pictures of my Cold Air Intake in the Photos section under My Mods.
