Vietnam Summer Fall 1969, 9 Jun 69 to 31 Oct 1969
     We are building timelines for the Troop's service in Vietnam. If you have award citations, SITREP's, AAR's or other documents, they can provide dates that can add to the timelines.  John Moore, 1st Plt Ldr & Trp XO from Aug 68 to Aug 69, is our volunteer coordinator for the Summer/Fall 69 timeline. 
     Note 1: Entries that include an exact time or grid coordinates have been extracted from offical documents.  If no time is provided it is a recollection from a unit member.

June 9
- CPT Hogue assumes command.
June 15
  - A Trp conducts a reconnaissance-in-force 3/4 miles north of Trang Bang. During sweep to the east a firefight occurs with enemy forces at XT482243.  The company sized enemy force is dug-in in fortified positions.  Co B, 1/5 Mech responded to assist A Trp.  Also responding were the CRIP element of 1/12 Infantry and a RVN Regional Force Company.  Artillery, air strikes and helicopter gunships were employed to attack the fortified positions. During the clearing of the bunkers 12 soldiers are wounded and Sgt. Alton Phillips is KIA. A large number of enemy bodies were found in the area after the contact was over.  A Trp moves to a FSB for the night and the remaining 6 wounded are evacuated to Cu Chi Base Camp.
July 27
 - Operations in the Donut. "RIFs" (Recon-In-Force) in the Rome plowed areas of the Boi Loi Woods around the Donut.
July 28
 - Continued with RIFs in the Boi Loi Woods.
July 29
 - NDP at the Donut. 22:30 hrs rpg hits rpg screen in front of A22.  Troop received incoming with a ground attack. Attack lasts about 1 hour.  Attack suppressed by heavy fire from 50 cal. MG and M551 main guns.  (See Narrative by William Marthers).
July 30
 - Sweep outside NDP finds that NVA left a dead 1st LT on the battlefield. Many heel drag marks with blood trails going into the woodline.
Aug 6
- LT Pruitt assigned as XO.
Mid Aug
  - Operated around Duc Hoa. NDP at the hard point at the Sugar Mill on the Vam Co Dong river. Co-located with a battery of SP 155's.
Aug 31
 - OPCON to 3rd Bde until 31 Oct.
Oct 24
- 1500 Depart Cu Chi Base Camp. At 241735
Oct, closed in NOP FSB Hampton.
- 1513 A Trp sub elem left Cu Chi to relieve C Trp 2nd plt who is reacting to 2/12th contact vic XT568305
- 1522 A Trp sub elem coming to FSB Hampton.
- 2200 A Trp reports mortar rds 350m, AZ 30deg.
Oct 25
 - NOP FSB Hampton.
- 0700, Oct departed NOP to begin road sweep.
- 0930 Oct, linked up with 1/5 Flame Plt to sweep area of contact C Trp had last night (XT558308).
- 0945 Oct, location:  XT488204.
- At 1800, 1st Plt at CP 139, enroute to FSB Hampton.  2nd and 3rd Plts at XT540298.
Oct 31
  - Combat losses of Major Items from 17 Feb-31Oct,1969 for 3-4 Cav: 5 Ton Trucks (2); M-113A1 (40); M-551 (19); M-106A1 (2).  From 2nd Bde Combat After Action Report.
