Reunion Information

Tucson 2010 - The Cav Returns to the West. Our reunion will be held in Tucson, Arizona, returning us to the 4th Cavalry's duty station of the 1880's.  In 1884 the 4th Cavalry was ordered to Arizona to combat the Apache. Elements of the Regiment were stationed at army posts throughout the eastern half of Arizona, including Camp Lowell in Tucson. In 1885 the regiment began a campaign to capture Geronimo, who  surrendered to the 4th Cavalry in September 1886. At Fort Bowie the 4th Cavalry Band played as Geronimo and the Apache prisoners were loaded aboard a train for Florida. The 4th Cavalry was reassigned from duty in Arizona in 1890.

General Information The reunion dates are April 28th to May 2nd 2010. Tucson International Airport serves Tucson and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is a 90 minute drive away. AmTrak trains arrive in Tucson twice weekly. Tucson is the historical cornerstone of the Southwest and home to some of the world's most beautiful landscapes. There is an attraction for everyone in or near Tucson. Make it a vacation!  Stay longer and visit regional attractions such as the Grand Canyon. We hope to see all former troopers in Tucson in 2010!  Registration, hotel and tour information will be available in April 2009.

Attraction of the Week: Tubac Presidio State Historic Park - Arizona's first state park-houses remnants of the military fort founded by the Spanish in 1752.  Visit the underground display of portions of the original foundation, walls, and plaza floor of the Presidio (fort) de San Ignacio de Tubac. Enjoy lunch in the picnic area, and visit the 1885 schoolhouse and Visitor Center. Historic exhibits trace Tubac's precarious past-from the days of Apache raids through its 1860 status as Arizona's largest frontier town. Tours around the park grounds are lead by staff and volunteers dressed in historical costumes who talk about the history of the site. Learn what life was like for the presidio soldiers and their families, including what they ate and the illnesses they faced. Visit the second oldest schoolhouse in Arizona, and see Arizona's first newspaper press. Afterward, visit nearby Tubac Village-renowned for charming cafes, shops, and galleries.
