Uniform Code of
Operating Rules For Railroads in the Anachronistic Region
-
One or two freight cars may be moved into and out of industrial sidings
without air and brake tests.
-
Before three or more freight cars may be moved, air and brake tests
must be conducted. (Delay equal to 5 seconds per car in string.)
-
Unprotected grade crossings must be flagged. (Delay equal to 30 seconds
for flag man; don't forget to slow down after clearing crossing to pick
up flag man.) Note: Vienna is switched with flag man on the ground at all
times.
-
Bobber cabooses (4-wheels, 2 axles) must never be between the locomotive
and the freight cars when train is in motion.
-
Switches/turnouts are assumed to be manual unless designated by rule
book to be under the control of the dispatcher, tower operator, or yard
master.
-
A member of the train crew must be “in position” to throw a manual switch/turnout.
-
Switches/turnouts must be returned to the main/through position before
the train crew leaves the area unless instructed differently by rule book,
dispatcher, or tower operator.
-
Locomotives must come to a stop before changing directions.
Additional Rules
for Operation on the ARE
-
In general, there are boxes in each town for arrivals and cars at destinations.
There are exceptions, so please read the label on the box.
-
After delivering a card to its destination, (1) check off the destination
on the car card, and (2) place the car card in the rear of the box. When
a car arrives at an intermediate stop such as a yard arrival or town interchange
track, place the card in the appropriate box but do not check off the destination
(because the car hasn't arrived there yet).
-
In general, remove enough cards from the front of the box to make up
your train. Exercise discretion in picking up cars from an industry in
order to make space for arriving cars. If the destination is in town, deliver
the car and place the card per rule 2. If unable to deliver the car, replace
the card. An overload of 25% is permitted at the engineer's discretion
without dispatcher permission.
-
When making up a train, block all cars for the same destination together.
If more than one town is served, block the cars with the first car to be
delivered nearest the engine. Give the cards for the ready-to-go train
to the dispatcher.
-
Yard crews remove cards from arrival box and distribute cars to destination.
-
The following districts are protected by Track Warrants: Silver Spring
Tunnel, Squirrel Hill, Hoboken. Possession of a Track Warrant is required
before a train may enter the identified district and track. Return Warrant
when leaving district.
-
L’Hospital is served from East Babel Yard. It should be served when
track 6 is open for use as a run-around.
