Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila Stays in Green Bay   04/03/03

Instead of the Eagles outbidding Green Bay, the Packers surprised many and offered a cap busting contract of 37 Million - good for KGB, bad for the Eagles.  Although KGB has posted outstanding stats in the last two years, his potential has not been fully realized.

Look for the Eagles to add competition at the DE position in the draft.  This is a very good draft for DE, TE, ILB, and WR.  These are areas of strong interest to the Eagles.  It is possible for the Eagles to use their 2 second round draft picks to negotiate a move-up in the draft.  But, given the strength at these positions in the draft, the Eagles are in a better position with multiple draft picks in the top 100 picks.

Since there isn’t an interesting Free Agent DE out there, who at the DE position will the Eagles be considering in the draft?  Terrell Suggs, Jerome McDougal, and Michael Haynes will not be available when the Eagles take the 30th pick of the first round.  Here is a synopsis of some of the top DE candidates that the Eagles will have a chance of drafting:

Dewayne White – an underrated DE who is quick and strong.  May not be explosive but is quick and applies good pressure.  Strong against the run.  A well-rounded talent.  (Late First Round)

Calvin Pace – good pass-rusher.  Fair against the run.  (Second Round)

Tully Banta-Cain – explosive pass rusher who is on the small side.  May have difficulty holding up against the run at the next level. (Second Round)

Aaron Hunt – a prolific performer with a good motor.  Is smaller than would be ideal at 6-2, 263. (Third Round)

Chris Kelsay – somewhat overrated as demonstrated by his Senior Bowl performance.  Good motor and a fair pass-rusher.  Is not as capable against the run as others.  (Third Round)
