We had requested our baby be from Guangzhou (aka "Canton"), which is where Larry's grandmother was from, but the people at the CCAA had other ideas.
Our daughter Samantha was living in the city of Changsha, which is the capital of Hunan Province and is a busy port on the Xiang River. Changsha is associated with, and has many monuments to, the early career of Chairman Mao Zedong, who was born in nearby Shaoshan and spent most of the period from 1913 to 1921 there.
Changsha and Hunan are also famous for their embroidery, which we saw when we visited the Hunan Embroidery Research Institute in Changsha and it's spicy cuisine. We stayed at the Dolton Hotel while in Changsha, which we both highly recommend. It was a beautiful hotel and the staff were very helpful, despite the language barrier. :)
