Robert Finley

1791 - 1857

Robert Finley was born in western Virginia in 1791 of Scottish parents. There is information that Robert would serve with the Virginia regulars during the War of 1812. His wife, Dorcas, would apply for his pension in 1858. He would marry Dorcas Splane of Kentucky sometime before 1830 and they would settle on a farm in McNairy Co., Tennessee. In mid-1850, Robert and Dorcas would move with their family to the Corinth, Mississippi area. Robert and Dorcas would live out their lives there and Robert would Die in 1857 and Dorcas in 1860. They are both buried in the Corinth, Miss. Area.

Children: Jane, Pamela, James Harrison, and Melinda.

Notes:

Not much is known in real facts about when our ancestors would come to America. There is a oral history that was passed down through generation that those ancestors came from Scotland, probably after the Jacobite rebellion in 1745. Some family traditions to back that history is that our forefathers were staunch Protestant in their religion, are very clannish and independent mined. They did not care much for the Irish or English. We know that our American history goes back to Virginia. There were numerous Finley families of Scots origins in Virginia at the time our earliest known ancestor, Robert Finley was born in 1791. Trying to pin down his ancestors has been frustrating to say the least. We are still trying and I'm confident that we will find that info someday. Until then, good hunting.
