Jordan's Birth Story

On September 16, 1997, I was almost 2 weeks away from my due date and had a Dr’s appointment at 1:10 that day for a checkup. I felt fine that morning, except for a major back-ache that I had had for a week. So I went to my part-time job at 9:00 a.m.. At approx 10:30 that morning, I started having contractions every 15 minutes. No pain though, could just feel them. Figured, well, I'd finish up some paperwork. Apparently wasn't going to be in that office for a few weeks! :o) At 11:30, I decided that I’d eat some lunch. Figured that it would be the last that I got to eat for a while. At 12:30, I drove home to finish packing and called my hubby at work from the cell phone on my way there. I figured I’d have the Doc check me at my appointment. And if they wanted me at the hospital, I'd walk over there! When I walked into the Doctor’s office, the pains were 7 min. apart. I walked in from the parking lot. Felt real good! I was seeing a different Doc on rotation that day and at 1:20 p.m., while we were waiting on him, my water broke and went everywhere. I mean a small flood! Well, the Doc came in and said, ‘Oh your water did break, didn’t it!’ And he was all smiles. Until he checked me. Found out I was fully dilated and the baby’s head was starting to crown! OH BOY! (Mind you. I never felt any pressure of any kind, until about 5 minutes after I laid down on that table for him to check me!) He ran out of the room talking about an ambulance. Thank God one of the nurses had went to get another Doc that was in the office. She wanted to know why he needed an ambulance. (After all, the hospital is attached to the professional building). He told her, and she just smiled and said "I guess we’re going to have a baby born in the office today!" Well, he couldn’t handle it, so she had to take over for him. The whole time that this conversation is taking place, I've got a nurse practitioner standing there with me, saying, 'DON'T PUSH, DON'T PUSH YET!!!'---And I'm thinking, "OH YEAH RIGHT, YOU'VE NEVER HAD KIDS RIGHT???!!!" 3 pushes and 16 minutes after my water had broke, Jordan Leigh arrived in this world. She had a lot of people waiting to see her in that office. My Doc and his nurse came in to see her born. And several other nurses. Including a L&D nurse and a NICU nurse (with a baby warmer). The Doctor on call at the hospital was also in the office. We had a total of 4 Docs and 6 nurses in one of those tiny exam rooms. Not counting myself and Jay and the people in the hall! She arrived so fast it was almost like a dream! The only meds I received were lidocaine shots when they stitched me up. (Trust me, those don’t feel so good down there.) And they even did that in the office. The nurses all agreed that they had never seen a baby born as fast as Jordan was. I really thought Jay might faint! The doctor kept asking him if he was alright! He just stood there holding the wall by my head up!!! :o)

Jordan was taken over to the hospital to the nursery to be checked over and weighed. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 12 oz. Apparently though, someone couldn't measure to well, as they measured her at 22". But, at her 2 week checkup, the nurse could only get a good 19" from her! :) At almost 7 weeks, she was measured in Pediatrics at 20" and weighed in at 9-1/2 lbs.! So she was a shorty!

Jordan did have to spend a week in NICU, on antibiotics. This was because she was early and I was GBS positive. She was showing elevated cell counts which is a sign of an infection. Most likely from the GBS she was exposed to. She was also unable to maintain her body temperature. But she’s doing great now!

And yes, she’s still in a hurry about everything! She doesn't walk, she runs everywhere! I still take her back to the office so they can see how she’s growing. They told me that I had to! They think she’s part theirs now! LOL

And, I guess, that in a way, she is! :o)
