2009-2010 Scholarship Coupon Books are now available - 11/11/2009The 2009-2010 DPGA scholarship coupon books are now available at $40 for DPGA members and $50 for non DPGA members. They would make a great Christmas gift for your favorite golfer or yourself. All proceeds go to help finance the DPGA scholarship program which gave out $10,000 this past year. DPGA Completes "B" League Play for 2009Hunters Oak Golf Club is the winner of the DPGA "B" League competition this year. Nassawango CC was second and Nutters Crossing came in 3rd. DPGA Senior Tournament HeldThe DPGA Senior tournament was held September 26th at the Beach Club with Jere Lynch of Nassawango taking 1st gross and Ford Schumann of Chester River taking 1st net. The DPGA Amateur Tournament held at Beach Club on August 22 & 23The DPGA Amateur Tournament was held at the Beach Club on August 22 & 23. Due to the rain out on Saturday, the tournament was limited to 18 holes on Sunday with Matt Briggs of Nutters Crossing shooting an even par 72 to take the trophy. The DPGA Announces the 2009 recipients for their scholarship awardsFor the 2009-2010 school year, there is one new scholarship that was awarded and 4 renewal scholarships that were continued. DPGA forms "B" League Competition between Clubs May 2009Six of the DPGA Clubs have set up a "B" league competition between their clubs. Blase Gavlick of Sussex Pine initiated the idea of a friendly competition between the DPGA clubs and the Elks, Nassawango, Sussex Pines, Hunter's Oak, Nutters Crossing and Seaford have joined up to compete. New DPGA Member for 2009The Beach Club Golf Course in Berlin, Maryland has joined the DPGA and will be hosting the DPGA Amateur Championship and the DPGA Senior Championship this year. Welcome aboard! New junior golf chairman starts March 2009Matt Andrew from Caroline CC has accepted the responsibility to oversee the DPGA Junior Golf program this year. He is now in the process of putting together the junior tournaments. We want to thank Matt for stepping forward for this important job. There will be 5 DPGA junior tournaments this year and the top 4 players in each flight will compete in the Junior Tournament of Champions at the end of the season. DPGA holds Couples TournamentOn Sunday, September 21st, Seaford Country Club hosted the DPGA Couples Tournament. Danny DeFelice and Jenny Davis won the gross with a 71. Jim & Louise Marine won the net with a 59.
DPGA Senior Championship Tournament heldOn Tuesday, September 2nd, Uplands Golf Club hosted the DPGA Senior Golf Championship. The flights were broken down by age and gross and net prizes were awarded as well as closest to the pin on all five par three's. New Chairman for DPGA Junior Tournaments neededAfter 28 years Kevin Fink of Caroline Country Club has decided to step down from overseeing the DPGA Junior Program. Thanks to Kevin for all of his support in working with the juniors all these years. Kevin has submitted a letter thanking everyone for their help in the Junior program and you can click on letter to read his comments. Again from the DPGA members and the many Juniors through out the many years, thanks for all of your help Kevin. Junior Tournament of Champions heldThe DPGA held their year ending Junior Tournament of Champions at the Easton Club Golf Course on Sunday, August 10th. To compete in the tournament, the players had to get points in the four preliminary tournaments during the summer and had to be in the top four in each age group. In the 10-11 year old boys division, Matthew Rosal of Wild Quail took 1st place with a 41 for nine holes. Nick Yost of Caroline was 2nd with a 58. Olivia Hancock of Winter Quarters took the girls division with a 9 hole 59. In the 12-13 year old boys division, Joseph Visalli of Wild Quail took 1st place with an 87 and Robby Badillo of Wild Quail was 2nd with a 100. In the girls division, Alyssa Alice of Seaford took 1st place with a 106. In the 14-15 year old division, Andrew Mlynarski of Harbourtowne took 1st place with a 72, Nino Rosal of Wild Quail was 2nd with an 82 and Chris Brittingham of Nutters was 3rd with an 85. In the 16-17 year old division, Matt Lank of Seaford took 1st with an 82, Nash Ireland of Caroline was 2nd with an 84 and Logan McGuire was 3rd with an 85. Wild Quail's team of Chris Blades, Nino Rosal, Brian Gibbons and Conner Hamburg came in first place and Wild Quail's team of Chris Wisler, Tyler Charney, Matt Rosal and Jerome Mangubat came in 2nd. 4th DPGA Junior Tournament held at Maple DaleOn Monday, July 28th, Maple Dale CC hosted the last junior qualifying tournament for the Junior Tournament of Champions. Click on results for a list of the players and photos of the winners. The field of players for the Junior Tournament of Champions has been determined and if you click on qualified players you will see the list of players qualified for the tournament to be held at Easton Club on August 10th. The Robert Swanson Junior Tournament canceledThe Robert Swanson Junior Tournament scheduled for August 6th at Hog Neck has been canceled due to the low number of entries received. It will be rescheduled for next year.

DPGA holds Amateur Championship at Nutters CrossingOn Saturday and Sunday, July 19th & 20th the DPGA held their Amateur Championship at Nutters Crossing. In the Championship flight, Warren West
from Chester River won in a playoff against John Mlynarski III from Harbourtowne
Golf Club. Both shot 133 for the two day event. Mitch Wyatt from Green Hill came
in third place with a 134. Mitch
shot a Nutters Crossing tournament course record of 63 on the first day of the
tournament. Jack Slayton from the Elks took the Net
division with a two day net score of 132. Rich Hagel of Nutters was second with
a net 135 and Neal Barker of the Elks placed 3rd with a net 137. The one day DPGA Amateur Team Championship went to Talbot Country Club with their three man team Jerry Wilcoxon, Kris Wilcoxon and Steve Ford, scoring 215 on the last day. Association, Inc. has announced that college scholarships are available to
students with financial need, who are active golfers and are going to major in
or taking courses in a field related to golf. The deadline for submitting the
scholarship application is June 1st.
Last year eight students received a scholarship. Each candidate must submit a portfolio that includes; a completed application, a resume, a transcript of grades, a letter of recommendation from a DPGA golf professional/ DPGA representative or golf committee chairman, and have proof of admission to an accredited college, provide a copy of handicap card and be available for a personal interview by the DPGA Scholarship Committee. More information about the scholarship and applications can be obtained from your school guidance counsel or from the DPGA website. On Oct. 20th the DPGA (Delmarva Peninsula Golf
Association) and the DSGA ( Delaware State Golf Association) held their 12th
annual Bay Cup match which was hosted by the DPGA at Bayside Resorts.
The competition had 3 different nine hole match play formats. The
1st nine holes were better ball, the 2nd nine holes were alternate shot
partners and the 3rd nine holes were individual play.
This years match ended in a 12 to 12 tie, but since the
DPGA team won in 2006, the DPGA retains the Bay Cup. The first Bay Cup
match was held in 1996. The DPGA has 4 wins, The DSGA has 6 wins and
there were two ties.
The 2007 DPGA participants were Buddy Sass and Brian
Taylor of Ocean City, J.B. Webster and Denny Scott of the Elks, Dickey Green,
Chris Mason, Scott Hepner, and Shawn Thomas of Green Hill, Jerry Lynch of
Nassawango, John Mlynarski of Harbourtowne and Chad Hill of Talbot.

Senior Championship held at Great Hope on August 27, 2007On Monday, August 27th, the DPGA held their Senior Championship at Great Hope Golf Club. Overall winners were Joe Restien for Gross and Rick Lopez for Net. To get the results of the tournament click here. On July 8 and 9, the DPGA held their Amateur Tournament
at Harbourtowne Golf Resort. The two day gross winner was John Mlynarski IV
from Harbourtowne with a 141. Second gross winner was Steven Ford of Talbot CC
with a 146 and Scott Heapner of Green Hill was third gross winner with a 148.
The Net winner was James Goss of Hog Neck with a net 145. The gross
winner will have his name engraved on the Trophy and have it displayed at his
home club during this next year.
On July 10th the DPGA held their 3rd Junior
Tournament of five at the Ocean City G & CC. The 10-11 age
bracket winner was Alyssa Alicea who shot 68 for nine holes. The winner of the
12-13 age group was Dylan Chessher of Wild Quail who shot a 101. The
winner of the 14-15 age group was Chris Brittingham of Nutters Crossing
who shot an 83. The winner of the 16-17 age bracket was Andrew Haldeman
of Nutters Crossing with a 79. The overall low score winner was Kyle
Gebhart of Ocean City with a 70. The leading point earners in
each age bracket will be invited to play in the Tournament of Champions at Hog
Neck Golf Club on August 14.
On July 18th the Don-Falls-Bill Long Pro Junior
Tournament sponsored by the DPGA was held at the Harbourtowne Golf Resort for
teams made up one golf pro or club rep and three juniors. Eighteen teams
participated in this tournament with the team from Wild Quail consisting
of Jay Whitby, Nino Rosal, Alden Clapp and Andrew Devine was the winner.
The team from Harbourtowne made up of John Mlynarski, Andrew Mlynarski, John
Mlynarski IV and Paul Mikowske came in second.
