Co-proprietor with Roger Williams, the Colonial founder of Rhode Island, in Williams' Providence Plantations. Maturin appears first on record among these proprietors in 1646. He subscribed his own name Mathurin Bellow. His descendants commonly resolved it into Maturin Ballou.

born 1626 in Devonshire, England;
daughter of Robert PIKE born 1601 & Catherine _____;
died 27-Oct-1707 in Providence, RI, at the age of 81.
