Mike's Batpage

Welcome to the new "Batpage". I have several photo's of bathouses I've built and installed and will try to post updates as to when they get inhabited and so on. If you are interested, I have a few for sale, please contact me (Mike F.)
and I can give you all the info you want.

Update Sept 2010 - the 3 house pole at Houghton Lake MI has LOTS of bats. This is not suprising since the spot had bats in previous years.

Some basic info: there are 2 sizes, both built to Bat Conservation Internbation specifications, in fact the plans are from the book they put out called The Bat House Builders Handbook. They are sealed with caulk on the outside very well and have 2 coats of exterior latex black semi-gloss paint. All chambers have screen door mesh stapled in them. Since I live in MI and have put 8 of them up locally, I didn't put any ventalation holes in because of the local climate.

One is a single chamber "bachelor pad" that measure 24" wide x 27" tall with a 3/4" partition. $25 + shipping.

The other is a 4 chambered "Nursery Roost" that is 17" wide x 31" tall with 3/4" partitions. This one requires another piece of wood to allow for mounting (actually 2 to keep it level top and bottom) which I will include. $40 + shipping.

Here are my 3 houses in my backyard in Clarkston MI, 30 miles north of Detroit. I just got them up here in October, 2009. It's now too late for this year, but I'm hopefull for next spring. I connected 2 10' 4x4's. There goes 2 feet and its about 3' in the ground, so the top of the pole is at about 15'. They are out in front of a small woods, slightly behind my house, but has a nice open area from the side through to behind my house. I see bats during the summer out in front of my house, so maybe they'll find it. All 3 are the multi-chambered houses.

Here are some pics of the single-chamber houses.

Here is a similar pole with 3 houses and a single house mounted in a tree. The are about 1000' from each other, located at Houghton Lake MI. The pole previously existed and had a small house on it that was populated for many years. There is a large field behind it. These also went up in Oct 2009.
