Romnchel DNA project

The Romnchel DNA project is Roma run with no ties to any organization. This way we have no obligations to any institution or outsiders.
We are doing this for ourselves to learn more about our people, so we can come up with our own answers.

This project is open to all Roma / Romani / Romany / Gypsy / Travelers through out Europe, Canada, Australia, North and South America.

The project goals are to compare the DNA between all the people who call themselves Roma / Romani / Romany / Traveler / Gypsy or similar description, regardless where you now live, and regardless your surname.

This project is open to Male & Female. We hope by comparing our DNA as a whole group of people, we can help better explain our family's heritage, our culture, and where our family's all came from prior to the existence of surnames.

We hope through this DNA project, will help us find answers as to where our ancient ancestors came from, and hope DNA may show us DNA connections between the many peoples who call themselves Roma / Traveler / Gypsy or similar term.

We also hope by comparing the many people through out Europe, we might start to see a DNA pattern, which may help explain some of the migration routes certain groups took.

Through this project, we hope to help some family's make connections to other branches of their same surname, whom they don't have a paper trail to connect the branches together yet. For you doing the family tree research, it is possible with enough participants of your surname, that you may find links to branches that you didn't know you were related to.

We already know Y Chromosome Haplo Group H, is being found in England, USA and Australia in some family's. This rare DNA group in the men is most often found in the men of India and Pakistan, and possibly in low numbers in Iran. We also know from privately funded DNA studies, that this rare DNA group has been found in men from Romania and Hungary too. But what isn't known is, what other Haplo Groups will be found once many people from across the globe get involved in this project.

Romany female DNA is unknown to us yet. So little is known about what DNA groups you ladies carry in you today, that it would be pure speculation to even attempt a guess at what Haplo Groups you ladies are in. So honestly, what is a Rom female DNA Haplo Group? We just don't have that information available to us yet.

If you are interested in joining us in this project email me at  gypsydna@comcast.net so I can send you an email with a hyper link to the project.

I am a Romany Locke descendant, I do not speak Romani yet. My family heritage wasn't passed down to me. As you can tell from this web site, I am an English speaker, so I hope you speak English too or we are going to have trouble explaining this process to you. Interpreters  maybe needed for you who do not speak English.
If you would like to volunteer your interpreter skills for this project, please email me.

The Romnchel DNA project is now excepting donations to help pay for free DNA kits for people who would like to be tested, but can not afford to be tested.
Your help is much needed! http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html Be sure to state your donation is for the Romnchel DNA project, any dollar amount is fine.
If you would like to be placed on the free kit waiting list, please email me so I can put you on the waiting list. It is first come first served.
Only when there are funds available in the General Fund, will the next person on the list be offered a free kit. It takes time to collect donations, so for you on the waiting list, please be patient.

Haplo Group in GREEN is SNP confirmed, Haplo Group in RED is estimated. The only way to be certain of your Haplo Group is to order an additional test called the SNP test or in some cases, the Deep Clade SNP test.
This project is using Family Tree DNA, FTDNA, because they are the worlds largest DNA company of it's kind. FTDNA has the worlds largest DNA database for us to compare our DNA to almost 200,000 people world wide.

If you have already DNA tested with National Geographic Society Genographic DNA project. You can move your test results over to FTDNA for free!
Log in to your NGS DNA web page and choose the option to join FTDNA. A lot of folks don't know this fact, but FTDNA actually supplies NGS with their DNA kits.
Because FTDNA and NGS have a working agreement, NGS participants can opt to move their test results over to FTDNA for free.

I know some of you have tested with Oxford or Ancestry DNA, but because each company uses their own formats, it is difficult to try to include other DNA formats.
To get the best study, it is best if we all use the same DNA company, which I have chosen for us to use, FTDNA.

I do this for free, I receive no money what so ever for running this project. I do it because I am interested in learning more about our Rom ancestors.
