ABOUT JIM EMELANDER

Jim Emelander is a self-representing artist
from Kentwood, Michigan.

He has an Associates degree in Art from the Grand Rapids Community College He also has a Bachelors degree in Information Systems from Davenport College of Business.

He has been drawing, painting, or doing other art projects as far back as he can remember. He also has 20 years experience as a programmer.

This makes him a rare thing, an artist who really understands computers.

Besides his independent projects, Jim did a stint as staff designer
and artist for a company specalizing in telephone advertisements .
This gave him a lot of experience with designing layouts.

He has only been working with vector graphic and Flash Animation for a short time having taken a class in
Flash Animation in 2007. His instructor was impressed enough outsource Jim commission work.
(Check out there work as Mandolin Design)

The biggest influence on his is art is most certainly all those comics he read as a teen. He was the friendly neighborhood comics geek when growing up and still has literally thousands of books stuffed in the basement.
Jim is also a big science fiction. This probably explains Jim's "unique" sense of humor (check out his HirZombie web site for example).

Feel free to also check out Jim's MySpace page.

Why "HAPPY DRAGON STUDIOS"?

Back a few years ago when I was looking to first put up a web site to portfolio my art, I'd just
finished the painting on the left.

This painting was in my mind when I went searching for a internet Domain Name I liked for my studio.
I named the painting "Red Dragon" but he definitely looked happy.

Even though it sounded a bit like a Chinese restaurant, I liked the name Happy Dragon.
In my mind it was already stuck. So there you go.

There have been some others over the last few years, but the dragon to the left is definitely
my original Happy Dragon dragon.
