HARMONY BOOK GROUP FAQ When do you meet?We almost always meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6:15PM, the only exceptions tend to be if there is a conflict such as commencement or spring break. We usually announce a month or so ahead of time if there is a change. Where do you meet? The location is at the Harmony Library at Shields and Harmony in Fort Collins, typically in the small room in the northwest corner of the library. An exception is the December meeting when we usually pick somewhere offsite for an extended meeting and holiday celebration. What is the summer project? For July and August, we usually pick a long or difficult classic book as a summer project, with the approximate first half of the book for July, and the second half discussed in August. How do you choose your selections? The usual formula for selections is to alternate between classic male, classic female, contemporary male, and comtemporary female authors. Anyone can suggest a selection, and if there is enough interest we add it to the list. We usually only pick from one to three months ahead. The summer project can disturb the rotation, as a classic may not line up for July, but we adjust. Because we have found it difficult to discuss a book that is a collection of short stories or poems, we have also picked collections from which we discuss one short story or one or a few poems, along with the main selection. Who is in the book group? We have a wide range of ages and occupations represented. The book group is most interesting when different perspectives are discussed, and most lively when there is disagreement. The leader is a professor at Front Range Community College. The current group ranges from recent Front Range graduates to retirees.
