Who Are we?

Iron Mountain Sword performs English traditional rapper and long sword dances.

We're based in Portland, Oregon and regularly perform May Day morning with the Portland Morris Teams (www.portlandmorris.org),and Northwest FolkLife Festival (www.nwfolklife.org)

In 2007 we were invited to the Half Moon Sword Ale (www.halfmoonsword.org ) in New York City.

Our rapper dances are based on the dance notations from the traditional dances from Amble and Swalwell. We've added and subtracted figures along the way.

The English Longsword dance is based on Salton as notated by Iver Alsop and performed by Orion Sword (http://homepage.mac.com/kfobrien/orion/aboutus.html )

We started dancing in 2002 and we practice on Tuesday nights in South East Portland. If you're interested in seeing what this is all about, please contact Dave:

Why the name "Iron Mountain"
Our first practice location was in Lake Oswego Oregon. Years ago, Iron was mined in the hills and smelted on the shores of the Williamette river. Christ Church Parish (where we practiced) was just off Iron Mountain Road. You can still see the train tracks from the mine to the smelter in parts of downtown Lake Oswego. The smelter is still standing (and not operational) in George Rogers park in Lake Oswego,

What is Rapper Sword?
We could write a bunch of stuff about Rapper, but, other folks have done that already. The best resource we've come across is www.rapper.org.uk ).

Thanks to youtube, We can watch our performance at the Brooklyn Museum during the 2007 Half Moon Sword Ale. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUZ4Ccu70To)
