When I discovered this fold that snaps closed, it reminded me of a Venus Flytrap.  (It's a plant that traps and eats insects.)  But I didn't want to name it that, because the model doesn't try to look like a Venus Flytrap.  This origami model snaps closed quickly, whereas the Venus Flytrap closes slowly.  So I chose a different Greek deity, Mercury, the god of speed (thus, another name for quicksilver).
