Lecture Topic
----------------------------------------
We discussed and demonstrated making custom ethernet cables. custom-made vs. manufactured considerations: correct size, time required, cost, etc. crossover(ethernet) vs. standard(straight-thru) back & forth vs. 1-way 4-pr vs. 2-pr(transmit and receive) colors - red, blue, green, brown "cat 5" - standard category

making cable open wire sheath even-out(cut) wires arrange in color order cut again to even out push into connector crimp We will do this again when I can bring a cable tester.

Projects
-------------------------------------
Team 1 (Juan, Gloria, Cecillia?) Moved the hub near the instructor station to the rack. Positioned the Wireless router and Internet router on the rack. Replaced a cable and adjusted cable runs for safety reasons (tripping hazard).

Team 2 Continued configuring a second Hard drive into one of the spare Compaq Deskpro 4000s. Next week we will switch it to a removable tray, so that we can have an easier time with imaging.

Team 3 Continued testing and setup of the Compaq 5415. We should try installing Win2000 on it.

Saturday at Summit After School Program All in all it went very well. We have to get to a couple of machines and configure the network settings for some. The DSL was tested and is working for the Win98 machines. We need to test the DSL setup on the Win2000 machines. I am thinking that the best way to handle the three Acers is finalize the setup on Station02 and image it over to stations 3 & 4.

Our goal was to configure all six machines to the following standard: Computer Name: Station0x User Account Name: Student0x User Account Password: summit Administrator Password: jenkins Verify Date, Time, Time Zone Install Office97 Install Office97 SR 2 (Service Release 2) Install Network Card (if needed) Connect PC to Workgroup Network Configure Internet setting to use DSL Memory Upgrade to 96mb or 128mb
