at Mount Airy Presbyterian Church
Secretary appointment- Susan Kenney
Stan Dogan to back up Secretary.
Julius Sanders will come to the group to help the Instructor, Greg Jenkins
lead the group next week May 22.
All students were asked to enter their email addresses into the
instructor's palm pilot.
This has been partially accomplished.
Annetta Jones - will organize the CD ROM's (software)
Volunteers for the Mental Retardation Awareness Committee Project:
Walter Walker and Annetta Jones both are interested in the web-master
assistant's position.
Ongoing project
Room 1 A Students are working on Connectivity issues. Outstanding issues
computers six and ten. Some other issues the group encountered: hub slots
not responding, possible bad wires, ip conflicts, students not logging in,
print sharing not being enabled, not plugging into the appropriate network
cards when a new one was added, software/card conflicts.
We learned that to PING a computer on the network we needed to bring up a
dos prompt and from the C:/Windows prompt type
ping 10.10.0.6
the above example is a ping to computer 6
to close a dos prompt type
exit
Room 2 B Mr. John Thomas - (a student from the upgrade class) - brought in
his personal pc. Our Networking students: Walter Walker and his team,
recommended and upgrade to his RAM (Random Access Memory). At this moment
Mr. Thomas's machine has 24 MB. Not good.
All of our computers are running Windows98.
We need to make a "Win98" folder on each of the machines. Then fill the
folder with the Windows98 cab files so that we do not have to use a
Windows98 cd each time we change hardware or network settings.
Next weeks projects:
Loading updated signature files for Norton Anti- virus versions 4 or 5.
Current signature files are outdated- 1/4/01.
Gloria Gordon, who has a cd burner and a high speed internet connection,
was asked to get the file from "www.symantec.com"
Organizational Stuff:
* Mr. Jenkins suggests that from now on the lecture part of the class end at
7:45 to give us more time to do the technical work.
* We will also post our names next our assignments, so that we can track who
is on which teams.
* We will discuss keeping the teams together from week to week.
* A list of Names, Email address and Phone Numbers will be distributed, if
everyone is OK with that.
Next Meeting, May 22, 7 - 9 PM, Mount Airy Presbyterian Church.
