Winnie Hill, GWY Lab Sys Admin., will Supervise
Mr. Jenkins will find five machines by next week and label them for
transport to GWY
The team should also evaluate the GWY lab for future networking and return
with the following Info:
What cables and cable lengths are needed
Can we use a single hub (we have only one 24 port)
Will all of their machines take the ISA cards
Note to Jonna & Glenn:
Donations of Network cards, data cables, hubs are helpful,
Especially 100mb stuff, except for the onboard cards in the Compaq's
everything is 10mb.
Since the Workshop side of the room be setup as a classroom during the
Computer Camp. We will probably schedule our 7/10, 7/17 and 7/24 meetings
at the GWY. Install Network cards, setup cables & hubs, setup sharing
There was a lecture about Association of file formats.
Mr. Jenkins suggested that we show all file extensions in Windows Explorer.
The default is to show only unregistered ones.
This is a clue as to which software program should be used to open a file.
example: .xls files are opened in Microsoft Excel
.doc files are opened in Microsoft Word.
This extension tells the computer which program to open in order to see the
file in an understandable format.
These Associations are stored in the Windows Registry
There was also a short discussion of the Windows Registry and Regedit was
demonstrated. Regedit is a dangerous tool for
for the novice.
Annetta will organize the keyboards next week.
Susan will bring in driver(s) for the deskjet hp 722c printer.
Kayla will be leaving the group and the area
but not before a vacation to Florida.
Kayla has donated a PC.
Thank you Kayla and we wish you the best of luck in your future.
