"Freestyle Position Iron Sight Pistol Event"
and added in 2011...
"Freestyle Position Scoped Pistol Event"

Similar to IHMSA Unlimited Creedmoor, except this one will be shot on paper, for group, at 500 yds. In 2011 we added another event, Scoped Pistol. Any Handgun which qualifies for IHMSA Iron Sight Production or Unlimited may participate, as well as any IHMSA legal Scoped Pistol. Shooting position will be "freestyle", and must be a "IHMSA Legal Position Technique". This includes what is commonly called the "flop", "dead frog" "Creedmoor", etc.

Richard Mertz has introduced two new events for the Silhouette Shooters out there. For 2012 any Handgun which meets IHMSA rules for Iron Sight and Scoped Pistol may compete in these events. These Matches will be shot at 500 yards, for group, on paper. You will be shooting from a "freestyle" (must be a legal IHMSA position or technique), on a raised platform. The other particulars and safety rules will be the same as the bench matches!

  • Any Handgun meeting Iron Sight IHMSA Rules is eligible in the FREESTYLE IRON SIGHT MATCH.


  • Any Handgun meeting Scoped IHMSA Rules, (as well as any IHMSA IRON SIGHT PISTOL that has shot in it's class) is eligible in the FREESTYLE SCOPED MATCH.


  • Designed to be shot as a "shooter/spotter team"

  • You have 5 minutes when called to the line to get set-up, and ready to shoot. Safety Flags must be in guns.

  • Upon the Line Rep's command, remove safety flags, and you have 5 minutes, shooting at steel sighters, then pause to clear area of all but 5 rounds of ammunition for record group. Then...

  • You will have 5 minutes to shoot your 5 shots on Paper, for Record Group, at 500 yards, from the Creedmoor Position.

  • The 2 best groups from each relay will go to the Shootoffs.
