When people think of the harp they often think of the big gilded
symphonic harp but there is another sort of harp whose popularity
is growing around the world. It is called the lever harp, folk
harp, Celtic harp, non-pedal harp or a variety of other names.
It is ideally suited for playing traditional music of the British
Isles, often called Celtic music. Ms. Davis plays several lever
harps on which she specializes in music of this genre. She has
a repertoire of approximately two hundred tunes from Ireland,
Scotland, Wales and England. This repertoire consists of airs,
waltzes, jigs, reels, and strathspeys. She is also prepared
to sing a number of "Celtic" tunes to complement her harp performances.
She has performed in the Spokane area in the past year at The
Highland Games, the Fall Folk Festival, First Night, Celtic
Odyssey, Robert Burns celebrations and a variety of Irish dinners,
Scottish ceilidhs, weddings and parties.
"Thank you for your lovely performance
at our ceilidh. It added a soft and beautiful touch
to our evening's festivities as two hundred people
hushed to silence to enjoy the music of your harp."
- Gene
Ms. Davis also performs early music on a gut strung Gothic
harp. This music was played primarily in the British Isles,
Spain, France and Italy during the 12th to 16th centuries.
Such music is ideal for weddings, medieval feasts, Christmas
Revels and memorial services and meditations.
Ms. Davis wears the Ross plaid for Scottish celebrations
and will appear for Irish celebrations or Early Music
events dressed to suit the occasion.
